Going to School for the first time | Learning Vision Hwa Chong

-Sponsored Posting-

If you follow us closely on our facebook page and instagram, you would have noticed our agony when it comes to picking a childcare center for James.

The childcare centers in Punggol are packed to the brim and have waiting list as long as the great wall of China! So when we were offered 4 days of trial classes by Learning Vision we were extremely delighted!

James was all excited when I told him that he’ll be going to school!
Bright eyed Bushy tail I’m-finally-going-to-school look.
James is finally going to childcare! Learning vision hwa chong

Learning Vision has many centers located conveniently around the island. We were enrolled into Learning Vision at Hwa Chong. The campus is surprisingly S P A C I O U S!

Kids were washing their hands after breakfast and frequently throughout the day.

“Tell me and I forget,
teach me and I may remember,
involve me and I learn.”

I was impressed that most of the learning activities were unconventional. I haven’t seen a single worksheet for the whole 4 days that we were there! There were many opportunities for children to learn hands-on.

James learns the word 面包 and 草莓果酱 by spreading strawberry jam on bread all by himself. Licking his fingers, smacking his lips and eating it!

Teachers play a very important role in a child’s life. Even more so when a child spends more than 8 hours in a childcare center with its care giver. I felt that the teachers at Learning Vision Hwa Chong genuinely love kids and their jobs too.

I wouldn’t have remained this cool with a roomful of abstract finger art painters, but the teachers remained nurturing. James painted a bunch of delicious looking 葡萄.

圆形笑脸饼干. It was hard for James to resist those colorful chocolate bits while putting eyes and mouth on his “rounded face smiley biscuit”.

Even a simple session of story telling could become an opportunity to hone confidence of public speaking skills. Bringing story to life with puppetry. *two thumbs up*

There were also a lot of singing and dancing, which the children thoroughly enjoyed!

And if weather permits, they can even play outdoor!
But before we go, teachers put on insect repellant for the kids.

Judging from those happy faces, this has got to be the BEST part of school!

Learning Vision has a practice of serving Fruits before Food since research has shown that eating fruits before food is more beneficial as compared to vise verse.

If a child was enrolled into a full day childcare program, they get to shower up before taking a little nap. James waiting patiently for his turn to hit the shower. It’s amazing to see how James was able to socially fit in even when he has never been to school before.

while my little rebel had other plans.

it’s time for a little snack.

Then there were more singing and dancing.

While waiting for parents to come pick them up, children could choose to read a book…

Or perhaps even explore a manipulative toy from the easily accessible cubby hole…

James is totally in love with the stringing toy!!

School has proven to be a joyful learning experience for James. I was surprised to see the bond building up between teachers and James in just 4 short days. James even hugged teacher Alicia on his last day of school.

Aww… That was really heart warming!

Even though James has grown to love the school and the teachers at Learning Vision, it’s a pity that the traveling distance to Hwa Chong is a tad too far for us. I’ll be checking out other branches and hopefully have a secure childcare placement for James soon.

Color Psychology for Homes

I spent last weekend dabbling in colors and getting inspired by the experts from Dulux.
Dulux Paint Let's Color

I found out that the most cost effective way of re-decorating a room is giving it a splash of color with a fresh coat of paint. Colors evoke emotions and it can even help put you in the right mood.

This is a rough guide on how appropriately use color schemes in different rooms around the house has a part to play in affecting our mood and emotional well being.

Have you checked out my unconventional color tips for the home too?

Now that you have a good idea on just about which color to pick for your rooms, here’s another amazing tips to giving your rooms a brand new optical illusion of space.

Just by painting a couple of walls in the room, you can make it look taller or wider…

Let’s take this home re-decorating project one notch further.
Since painting the entire room in one color is just too mainstream,
let’s go Atry Farty!

Advance Color Theories.
You need a color wheel for this part of your home re-decorating journey.
Dulux Color Wheel

Monochromatic color scheme uses variations in lightness and saturation of a single color. They are easy to manage, and always looks balanced and visually appealing.
Monochromatic Room in Purple

Analogous color scheme uses colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. They are as easy to create as the monochromatic, but looks richer.
Dulux Analogous Room

Complimentary Color Scheme is made of two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. This results in stronger contrast than any other color scheme, and draws maximum attention. It should be used sparingly.
Dulux Paint Complimentary room color

Split Complimentary Color Scheme is a variation of the complementary scheme. It uses a color and the two colors adjacent to its complementary. It offers more harmony as compared to complementary color scheme while retaining strong visual contrast.
Dulux Paint Split complementary color room

Triadic Color Scheme
uses three colors equally spaced around the color wheel. It is high contrast while retaining harmony. Perfect for a kid’s room!

This is it!
We’re all ready for some colors to usher in 2015 with big bang!

Oh, but wait, if you are like me,
not so visually incline and cannot work out
how a little patch of paint sample would end up in your entire room.

We’re in luck!

Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant | A case of PERFECT service recovery

My tolerance level for bad service is very much close to ZERO!
But, when a company who is able to turn my bad experiences
with excellent service recovery, they’ve won me (and my friends) over for a lifetime.

To cut the long story short, it was my birthday, and my friends were looking forward to celebrate the special day with me over nice dinner.
Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant Review

I’ve read a couple of rave reviews about Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant and thought that it would be the perfect place to hold a birthday celebration.

Call up the restaurant to make a reservation. The staff (Alex) confirmed my reservation. Since Lee Lee and Nice would be joining us for dinner, I thought I’ll give the restaurant heads up so that they could perhaps arrange a suitable seating arrangement. Alex wasn’t sure about the restaurant’s policy on guide dogs and told me that he needed to check with his supervisor and get back to me.
Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant Review

They were extremely efficient. I received a phone call from the restaurant supervisor, Shiv shortly. He rejected me flatly by telling me that pet dogs are not allowed in the restaurant. I was getting slightly annoyed. I explained that Nice is NOT a pet dog! Nice is a Guide Dog. A dog for the visually impaired! I told him to check with his higher management before getting back to me again.
Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant Review

And he did. Shiv called me back and told me that they are not able to accommodate me since my reservation was done last minute for weekend and that my group was too big. But, he will be happy to put me down for next week’s reservation list. That seriously got me on my nerves. I told him that his colleague Alex has confirmed my reservation! And now he is telling me that he is not able to accommodate us? I didn’t wait for his reply. I rarely hang up on anyone. And I did!

Well, you may say that the easiest way to get round this situation is asking Lee Lee to leave Nice at home while we become her “eyes” for the night. But, that doesn’t seem right. The use of a guide dog should increase mobility of the visually impaired. We should encourage such independence.

I wrote a feedback letter.

The restaurant supervisor Shiv called me back. He apologised and told me that he would do his best to accommodate me if there were any cancellation on the reservation list by 2.30pm. (Thinking that all those was just purely lip service because I sent in a feedback letter) I snorted a reply, yeah right!
Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant Review

Surprisingly, Shiv actually kept to his end of the bargain and called me back slightly after 2.30pm. He told me that they managed to sort out their reservation list and was able to accommodate us. He requested for us to be at the restaurant at 5.30pm so that the staff would be able to seat us before the crowd sets in. He has also asked for Nice not to move around the restaurant, since there might be other customers who might not like dogs. I can’t help but rebutted with another sarcastic reply, “Isn’t that the perfect opportunity to educate people about Guide Dogs and the work they do?”
Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant Review

Now my short story is getting rather long. I should just end it on a high note. LeeLee and Nice were warmly received at Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant.
Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant allows Guide dog

I’m happy that another person, another establishment has chosen to open their hearts and doors to empower independence in visually impaired people with guide dogs.

And so for that Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant deserve two thumbs up for the genuine interest in their customers’ feedback and excellent service recovery.

Finally, for a proper review of Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant…

Nested on the 8th level of Orchard Central lies a hidden gem. Kiseki, a Japanese Buffet Restaurant with a million dollar view of the cityscape in Orchard Road.

Inspiring People 2014 Ray Louis Pro BonoApart from being a reputable litigator who has been featured in the Law Gazette and The Red Dot on Channel 5 and Channel News Asia, Raphael Louis is a dedicated father and husband who has a strong belief in helping those who cannot help themselves.

A lawyer specializing in Divorce & Family Law, Criminal Defense, Accident & Insurance claims & Civil Litigation is also a member and volunteer of the Criminal Legal Aid Society (CLAS) and Legal Assistance Scheme for Capital Offences (LASCO).

Despite his busy work schedules, Raphael has also taken the initiative to set up a Punggol free legal clinic to provide counsel and advice to the needy.

Know someone who needs help? Read on…

1) Which person had the biggest influence in your life so far?
It has got to be my dad, because he introduced God to me. This is also the basis of why I do what I do; to help those who cannot help themselves.

2) What is the best piece of advice you have been given and by whom?
This advice came from the founder of one of top law firms in Singapore. He said, don’t focus on the money, instead, focus on doing the work well; the money will eventually come later.

3) Name 3 factors that have contributed to your success today?
I’ve only got 2. God and my wife.

4) If you could be a Superhero, who would you be and why?
My favorite Superhero is Spiderman. I like how he looks and behave like is an average Joe but yet has a higher calling of helping those who cannot help themselves.

5) When things get tough, how do you keep yourself going?
Whenever things get tough, I think about my wife and daughter. I also think about my pro bono work, on how my small contribution could help make a difference in other people’s life. Moments like that keeps me going.
Inspiring People 2014 Pro Bono

6) What rules do you live by?
I set clear goals for myself. I also make sure that I am discipline enough to meet those goals, which involves plenty of hard work and good time management. Lastly, I believe in a balance lifestyle where I put my priorities right; among others, family comes firsts.

7) What is your best advice to readers who wants to do what you do?
You need 2 things. Passion and Compassion. You need a passion for law to keep you going; you must never stop learning. Secondly you compassion to help others. There are many opportunities to help those in need, you just need to find the best fit for yourself. Every little effort counts, even if it means a small amount of time.

As Mother Theresa once said
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

8) You’ve recently started your own private practice, what are your plans?
Hopefully someday I can make enough money so that I could devote more time to help others, including pro bono work. Also to help mentor young lawyers; I hope to provide a conducive working environment to nurture and mentor them.

Every Mom’s Dream Bathroom

If you do not have kids,
then you won’t understand the sad plight of moms
who have lurking audiences even when we are taking a dump.
Follow mom to bathroom

Every mom’s dream bathroom should come fitted with a highly secured vault door.
Keep kids out of bathroom

That should keep the kids away long enough
to enjoy a home spa at the comfort of our own bathroom!

And since I’m such an AWESOME bathroom singer
who has never made it through Singapore Idol auditions…
Soundproofing the bathroom sounds like a brilliant idea too!
Bathroom Singer

Definitely Double Sink.
So that we both can stay in our own sides
and not complain about toothpastes or over crowding vanity!

And as for basin tap fittings, I’ll be looking at Grohe’s Allure range. I love the straights and the curves of the tap making it really attractive.

Grohe’s Rapid SL WC is the answer to my prayer!
These concealed installation and flushing systems looks great for a contemporary style bathroom. Very Atas… Macham hotel. I L👍KE. The technology of GROHE Whisper® is God sent! Now I can finally take my dump and flush quietly without waking anybody up.

I am spoilt for choices over the huge rage of Wall Plates.
I like the idea of Nova Cosmopolitan Light Wall Plate.

As busy moms, we hardly have the time to fart…
So heading out to a SPA seems to be like a long forgotten destination.

But now with Grohe’s F-digital Deluxe, the SPA comes home with me….
It’s a Home Spa!

It was love at first sight.

Fascinating light effects, your favourite music and pure relaxation of a steam bath are tucked into a super-slim and intuitive ambient controller. There is even an Grohe Spa F-digital Deluxe app to turn your ipods into luxurious spa management systems. The top light and rain shower panel would see me tap dancing to singing in the rain. Or perhaps even singing at the top of my voice to Rihanna’s under my umbrella ella ella… eh.. eh…

Pure Bliss! I thought I’d Died and Gone to Heaven.

Matching up with my Allure tap, I am also choosing the Allure range Thermostats. Keeping the design clean and minimalist.
