It’s hard to go wrong with steamboat. It’s pretty much a safe bet. As long as you have good soup base, fresh ingredients and a group of fun loving friends, that’s already a winning formula.

Say Kon’nichiwa to Mcdonald’s Ebi Kase Burger

-Media Invite-

McDonald’s Ebi Kase burger is making a comeback TODAY! (3rd Sep 2015).

The Cereal Ebi Burger is a combination of cereal coated whole shrimp patty on a fresh bed of lettuce accompanied with slightly spicy dressing, served in between toasted white sesame chive buns. As compared to the previous renditions, the new Cereal Ebi Burger has got a lot more texture and flavour. I finished the burger down to the very last crumb.

Perfect sidekick of the special Ebi Kase burger is the whole new Sweet Potato Fries. Pair this with a glass of refreshing coke. Yums! The Ebi Kase burger meal will be priced from $7.45.

Honeydew Mcflurry ($2.90)
Honeydew flavored ice cream with crunchy cereal bits.
Not crazy about this one… Still prefer Oreo Mcflurry.

Thank you #mcdsg and #omysg for this wonderful Ebi Kase Experience. 🙂

Mookata at New Udon Thai Food

Sorry for the long long hiatus…
Still trying to balance work, family and hopefully blogging.
With that being said, I salute mothers! We’re all pretty amazing!!

It’s been quite some time since I last caught up with friends.
So when Cherie asked me out for a Moo-Ka-Ta date,
I had to agree immediately even thought I had no freaking idea what mookata was!
(YES!! I was living under some rocks for not knowing what mookata was!!)

Confession of a Mookata virgin
As we walked into Golden Miles Complex, I had a very strong feeling that mookata is definitely Thai! Cherie was pretty hyped up coz we’re going somewhere that serves one of the best mookata in Singapore. As we arrive at New Udon Thai Food, I stared blankly at the signboard… “We’re having Japanese Thai food?” my ignorant mind whispered.

Before I could even open my mouth to ask, a guy beckon Cherie and myself into the restaurant. As we walk pass tables of portable gas stoves with shinny copper skillet, it suddenly dawn onto me that we’re having BBQ STEAMBOAT! Thai Barbeque Steamboat to be precise.

Once seated we were immediately presented with a combo of vegetable, meat and seafood platter. Nope, we didn’t order it, it came as a standard starter set. ($45)

Crabstick, fishball, hotdog, prawn, squid, chicken & pork liver.

The thai waitres filled our shallow skillet with soup from a kettle and my personal mookata expert carefully greased the top of the skillet. (Oh… FATS, FATS, FATS!)

Cherie instructed me to coat the meat with eggs. And she repetitively stressed, “ON THE MEAT ONLY AHH!” Apparently this process gives a smooth and nice coating to the meat.

The grooves on special skillet allowed “juice” from barbequed food to seep back into the soup. The chicken is marinated with seasoning and generous amount sesame seeds. It’s oh-so-good!

The mookata virgin finally asked the question of the day. “BBQ and Steamboat meals are pretty generic. What makes Thai BBQ and Steamboat any difference from others?”

The dipping sauce of course! There is just something about the sauce that I truly enjoyed. It wasn’t too spicy, yet flavouful and again it is spiked with a generous amount sesame seeds!!

Food Review: AOne Claypot House Review

Call me a frog in a claypot well,
I’ve never heard about AOne Claypot House even though they have been in business since 2008.
AOne Claypot House review

From its humble beginnings of a lone store at the food court, AOne Claypot House has simmered it’s claypot porridge culture into 30 other locations before venturing out with its first full scale casual dining restaurant at Bukit Panjang Plaza in 2012.

The concept was so well received that 9 other restaurants were opened in just 2 short years with further 20 outlets in the pipelines island wide.

Homemade barley. We’re suckers for anything homemade.
So this homemade barley deserves thumbs up for its well balanced taste.

Dried Scallop Porridge with Minced Meat & Assorted Eggs
Reminds me very much of my late grandmother who makes incredible porridge. Simple ingredients of mince meat with century egg, salted egg and egg is made premium with dried scallop. The porridge’s heat and flavors is well maintained in the claypot.

Assorted Vegetables in Sambal Sauce

This is neither new nor is it rocket science. We can find such dish in many other restaurants, but Kitson thinks that this dish was indeed outstanding due to its simplicity, balance in flavor & the homemade sambal being oh-so-fragrant.

Pork Floss “Chai Po” Omelette
Fried omelette with preserved turnip topped with pork floss.
As simple as this may seem, it won hearts of our kids. Familiar comfort food.

Deep fried brinjal with salted eggs yolk
One man’s meat is another man’s poison. I personally liked this one, but Kitson felt otherwise. These crispy morsel are beautifully coated with salted egg yolk. The crisp crunch is music to my ears, and the soft brinjal fillings within is just delicious!

Assorted Fruit and Flower tea
This caffeine free and sugarless tea is a great choice for after meal berverage.

Dessert would be a marvellous way to end our meal in a sweet note. But unfortunately, there are none on the menu at this current moment.

Root Beer Float
The flat root beer float made provision for the shortfall of dessert. Kitson and James sharing a father-son lovey dovey moment.

The restaurant’s ambiance is warm, spacious and inviting. Service staffs are polite. But, I personally felt that additional training is needed for staffs to be more responsive and proactive to customer’s feedback. Definitely value for money!
